i was looking for a mask that gives a nice glow all the while drying out pimples. i didn't want a mask that only targeted acne. in my skincare regimen, i use a lot of different brands depending on my needs and on the performance of each, and use Dermalogica's Sebum Clearing Masque from time to time. However that one irritates my skin a little bit even though i don't have a very sensitive skin, and even though it does dry out the pimples (really), it causes redness for more than 2 days, which i find annoying.
Clarins' Mask is amazing because it does dry out pimples (less drastically than Dermalogica's masque though), AND reduces inflammation of the pimple and redness, thus making your skin look more even and the complexion purer & brighter in general. You will like your skin afterwards, especially if you leave it longer than 15 minutes. For example if i want to maximize the results before a special occasion, i leave it on my face for the entire night. You won't look like an alien as the color is discrete, you won't scare off your partner especially if you don't apply too much of it.
My skin is not oily so i can't say what it does regarding oiliness but i can feel it mattifies the skin pretty well and gives a velvety complexion. It smells very nice too.
i definitely recommend using an exfoliator before this or any other mask. i use Dermalogica's daily microfoliant sometimes, but what gives the best result for me is Cellex C Speed Peel Facial Gel (that one takes you about 8 minutes and the result IS and i mean IS amazing). i apply Clarins Mask after the peel, and the results are always fabulous.
One more tip: i got myself Clarins' Beauty Flash Balm in PRO size (You can use it around the eyes as an eye mask or all over the face, OR just as a base for your makeup to brighten up your complexion, especially after a short night's sleep, dark circles & all, so it is worth every $). That one is terrific, NO breakout or oiliness, smells great, and works PERFECTLY as a makeup base after you've treated your face to Clarins' Pure & Radiant Mask.
i like Clarins' honest promises in general. So far, they have never failed me.
