TWIN PACK - Parker Safety Razor Premium Sandalwood & Shea Butter Shaving Soaps in Watertight Container - 1.76 oz (50 gm) each Review

TWIN PACK - Parker Safety Razor Premium Sandalwood and Shea Butter Shaving Soaps in Watertight Container - 1.76 oz (50 gm) each

I've been shaving with a quality badger brush and good soaps for over twenty years. Part of the appeal is the ritual: warming the brush and face with hot water, pumping the brush with soap to make a creamy lather and then applying all this warmth to the face. But mostly it's because of the smooth, close shaves I get. I had not tried the Parker soap, but the Parker name is well regarded by aficionados of the shave (yep, it's almost cultish). Parker Safety Razor, founded in 1973, is an Indian company, and these soaps are made there. The soaps are all natural, free of pesticides and not tested on animals.
These two jars of soap are handsomely packaged and a good value, but they are small. With only a 2 1/4-inch jar-opening, it's more difficult to pump the brush than it is with soap in a bowl. But they are a perfect size for travel. More important, they give a super smooth and very close shave; my razor glides over my face, and I am closely shaved with just one pass of the razor--it must be the soap's shea butter. Yet the lather rinses clear and leaves no residue. My face feels smooth, soft and moist without any hint of dryness. The soap's sandalwood scent is subtle and refreshing.
This is one of the best soaps I've used. I wish they made a larger size to use as refills for shaving bowls. The small jar-size is the only reason for four stars rather than five.

Large Stainless Steel Shaving Soap Bowl from Super Safety Razors Review

Large Stainless Steel Shaving Soap Bowl from Super Safety Razors
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a very nice, elegant soap lathering bowl. I think the price is good. The bowl isn't high quality but it is good quality and a nice addition to your shaving kit. In the bowl I see four tack weld marks covered over by the 'chrome' and four more under the stand, but they aren't noticeable with anything in the bowl. Also, the 'rubber' ring around the bottom is somewhat loose and not overly well finished but, a tad of rubber cement inside and a small snip-snip on the loose material will take care of that. And, the bowl helps create great lather! I used it with a D.R. Harris Lavender cream and it whipped up nice and thick and rich, that is both a reflection on the cream and the design of the bowl. If you get this bowl you won't regret it!

A girlfriend gave me one of these as a Christmas present. It's great - so pretty you don't even want to use it. But I did and it lasts forever. I also think guys would like this soap - substantial and really looks like rock or sculpture. Smells great too!

Taylor Of Old Bond Street Shaving Soap in Wooden Bowl, Lavender
Average Reviews:

I tried this after reading a review here ([...]). I was worried it would be too fru-fru or fruity but it is GREAT! It has a good lather but not as good as their cream. The overall smell is good and is not so strong that it stays with you. Don't be afraid, this IS a mans shave cream. The one complaint is that the solids are cold when lathered on as opposed to something I can put in my warm mug and lather up.

Shaving Shave Set "Mach 3" Razor Badger Brush w/Stand on Soap Dish Review

Shaving Shave Set Mach 3 Razor Badger Brush w/Stand on Soap Dish
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a nice aluminum brush and Mach 3 razor set with a just the right size bowl that is also the base.
The brush is pretty damn good quality badger hair. I was actually pretty surprised by the quality of the bush While it is a smaller brush it does a great job of making good cream in a quite short time. I use the cheap glycerin based Van Der Hagen shave soap from Wal-Mart and it does a great job with that. Just remember if you are going to use something like you'll need to kind of mash the brush on there so that it will actually fill the brush a little more as using just the tips doesn't work too well with them
The mach 3 razor handle is nice but I don't use it. I took a dremel to that side and widened it up a little so that my Merkur Futur razor fits on that side.
The bowl is nice but it's small so you don't get all that much shaving cream in there when you are getting it ready, so if you don't need to do more than one or 2 passes then it's not a problem to use the bowl, you'll get just the right amount for that. If they reintroduced this same set with a bigger base/bowl I'd buy it in a minute, but for now this set will do just nicely.

Herban Cowboy Shave Soap ,Dusk Review

Herban Cowboy Shave Soap ,Dusk
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I often just buy new soaps just to try them since, I already have a line of soaps I really like(Van Der Hagen) usually $1.00-1.60. Most of the other brands just have a stronger scent that I like but do not shave as well, then I just take a VDH Glycerin and melt them together and get the best of both worlds. The Herban Cowboy soap smells nice and lathers well till you get to lathering the other side of your face and it all disappears (foam less, no glide, worthless). I never return anything but this one is going back since, I can't support suck a bad product. In case you were wondering I used it with a silvertip badger brush and a boar brush to give it a fair shot. I also tried different blades Personna being my favorite with my Merker barberpole razor.

Black & Decker S700E ScumBuster Xtreme Cleaning Tool with 3-in-1 Extension Handle Review

Black and Decker S700E ScumBuster Xtreme Cleaning Tool with 3-in-1 Extension Handle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I read all the reviews and I still bought it. Fact is, I hate getting on my knees and scrubbing with my hands while constantly banging my knuckles against the tub. My wife hates it, too. This thing is a huge welcome relief as long as you keep a few things in mind.
Firstly, yes, the batteries will eventually run out. This is how all rechargeable batteries are. The most you can do is charge it fully for the 1st 16 hours, then use it until it's drained. Then repeat the process *forever*. Don't ever plug it in while it still holds a charge or you'll risk creating bad 'memory' in the battery. I just cleaned the upstairs tub in 5 minutes and it still has power.
Secondly, don't bother putting fluids into the fluid reservoir. I personally put water in it to rewet the areas that have Comet/bleach.
Finally, the thing works. It cleans and it cleans well. It's RPMs aren't that fast, but it's a strong, slow turning that will clean all that grime off. It's handle is extremely comfortable to hold and well thought out. Just watch out for the backspray while cleaning. After a few minutes you'll get the hang of it, though.
If the batteries die on this thing, I don't care. I'll buy another. Either way it has a 2 yr warranty so hopefully Black and Decker will own up. Regardless, I can't ever see myself scrubbing with my hands again. I found mine on sale at the local Tar get for nearly half the cost as this site.
As usual, be sure to keep an eye out for the idiot reviewers on Amazon. The ones that are never happy and expect perfection in everything they buy. And the ones that keep the thing plugged in every day, all the time and are surprised when the batteries no longer hold charge. Take care!

Equipped with a powerful motor, this easy-to-use single-speed tool cleans four times faster than with conventional methods and two times faster than with previous ScumBusters. No elbow grease required--it does all the necessary scrubbing on its own. The unit's unique roller-brush design makes it easy to get a deep-down clean, and its three-in-one extension handle accepts any household cleaner, and offers extended reach and rinsing capability. Other thoughtful details include a fully submersible design, the ability to accommodate interchangeable accessories, and a powerful 3-3/5-volt rechargeable battery that provides 25 to 30 minutes of runtime. A roller brush, all-purpose scour pad, scour-pad holder, and charger come included. The cleaning tool measures approximately 4-4/5 by 7-4/5 by 19-1/5 inches and carries a two-year warranty.

#150 Straight Razor Ultimate Pro * Simco Strop * Fromm Strop Dressing Combo Review

#150 Straight Razor Ultimate Pro * Simco Strop * Fromm Strop Dressing Combo
Average Reviews:

I ordered this set along with some other items a few weeks back. I compared it to others that were similar I felt this was a good choice.
When the set arrived it looked nice and felt very nice. I tried to shave with it, it was no where near shave ready. It was necessary to do some hone work to get it ready.
Once it is properly honed and well stropped it does a good job. This is not a razor for a first timer. If you are a first timer I would suggest getting a good name brand razor such as DOVO or the like. Or search out a site that hones the razor prior to shipping so that it is shave ready Theirs Issard.
The strop is decent, you will have to spend time breaking it in. This is normal.
Had I not had a set of hones and knew how to prepare the blade I would have been disappointed with this purchase. For someone that knows how to do these things it is a good purchase. If you do not know how, you can visit a number of sites on line that is dedicated to straight razor shaving. The skills can be learned in a few evenings reading postings of other men that know how and impart their knowledge and wisdom freely.
Eventually you will have to purchase a set of honing stones for yourself, at some point in time you will need them or have the knife sent off to be honed. This is true of all straight razors no matter where you purchase them.
If you are prepared to learn and try it yourself it is a good purchase/project kit.

100% Silvertip Badger Bristle Shaving Brush (Chrome Handle) and Free Shaving Brush Stand from Parker Safety Razor Review

100% Silvertip Badger Bristle Shaving Brush (Chrome Handle) and Free Shaving Brush Stand from Parker Safety Razor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A friend of mine who sees my scruffy face every day suggested that I spend some time with the folks at The Art of Shaving store at our local mall. I went into the store, and was demonstrated the process they sell (a pretreatment oil, badger hair brush, shave soap, and after shave balm). They have sets of varying smells and components, but I soon realized that I was really just interested in the brush itself.
They sell a line of brushes that range from around $50 to over $200. The $50 brush seemed like something you might find on the clearance rack at K-mart, and so I passed. The $200 brush seemed like one I would enjoy using, but didnt want to spend anywhere near that amount. The prices at the store were ridiculous I felt, so I left the store and came home to Amazon and found this product, the silvertip badger brush. I ordered it at once, and it promptly arrived just two or three days later. As it was my first brush, I really didn't have much to compare it to, that is until I went back to The Art of Shaving Store and realized that its actually nicer than their $200 model. On mine, the bristles are softer, the fit and finish is better, and the bristles stay put (the one at the store that they were trying to sell me appeared to be shedding).
This shave brush is a great weight... thats the first thing I noticed when I picked it up. Its like that line from the movie Snatch when Boris is discussing a gun with another character in a Russian accent that "heavy means quality." It just sinks into your hand and stays there, like it was meant to be there. You dont have to be a super heavyweight champion to operate this thing, but its a positive full feeling.
The next great thing about the brush are the bristles (of course). They are soft and hold great amounts of water... just what you want when going for that perfect lather. A couple of passes under the steaming hot tap water and the brush is ready for its soap. A few swirls on the face, and your scruff is buried in rich creamy soapy lather, attributed to the ability of the brush bristles. Such a little amount of shave soap is needed for such a great lather... and this brush is the champion.
I was a little concerned that continue squeezing and wringing of the brush may cause some of the bristles to come out. I was wrong. I have had this product since early October 2009 (its now December 31), and with regular use, I havent noticed a single bristle come out. Cleaning this brush is very easy too... a few more passes under the tap, squeeze out the water, and hang in the provided stand to dry. Its a great addition to any man's shaving routine.
I fully intend on purchasing this again, and from this seller, but to be honest, with how this brush is lasting, I'm not sure when I will need to buy another one; it seems as though it may outlast my shaving days! Good product, and good shipping time.

Instead of buying a new brush when the old one gets nasty, just snap on a new head. In addition, you can fill the handle with detergent and just press down to get suds. The only problem is the head sometimes pops off with energetic scrubbing action. But it's usually in place.

I do not like this soap. The shape of it is inconvenient and difficult to hold, the smell isn't anything special, and I find I prefer shaving with a simple bar of glycerin soap much better. I'll finish out the package, since I bought a 2 pack, but have no potential of purchasing again.

Van Der Hagen Deluxe Shave Soap, 2.5-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 12) Review

Van Der Hagen Deluxe Shave Soap, 2.5-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 12)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This mug soap is great and I would recommend it to anyone. It lathers up quickly, has a nice but not overwhelming scent, and leaves my face feeling great after each shave. Just one of these bars will last you quite a while, so a pack of 12 will definitely last you for months if not years.
Update (27 June 2009)
Since trying several other brands for the sake of experimentation, I'm still sticking with Van Der Hagen. I have purchased soap that does not lather up as quickly. I have also encountered soaps where the lather in my mug dries out between applications (I use a safety razor, multiple passes are required), but this soap doesn't need to be whipped up repeatedly if it sits for a while. And best of all, this soap rinses off my face with little water and it doesn't dry out my skin at all. Not sure why the other user complains of the smell, I've encountered products with much stronger scents and I find this one very mild. Besides, it rinses off so well you never smell it after you are finished.

I really like the handle. It is aluminum, not just painted plastic. The only problem is that the bristles are not very dense. When they get wet they are a bit floppy. Not such a big deal when using shaving cream, but forget about hard soap. Its a problem with most Omega badger hair brushes I've tried.
